Cheap Hotel Santa Maria Sal

Hotel Pontoon

Right in the centre and built in a curve above the bank and shoe shops.Roooms are on the first floor facing south, some with a sea view about 200m away. It is brand new, clean, well furnished and efficiently run. Rooms look out onto the swimming pool and courtyard.Prices are from £138 per person for a week. A from London was there for the kitesurfing.
"The hotel was fine. I didn't spend too much time there anyway. Big room, bathroom and air con, fridge etc.. Breakfast was simple but good. It was pretty quiet while I was there - just a few other faces around at breakfast."

Murdeira Villa Bay

The resort is set in its own grounds with free access to the pool, fitness centre and tennis court, It also offers larger apartments and villas with access to the Hotel`s beachfront restaurant.

Hotel da Luz

With its own pool at the quiet end of town, it takes you out of the bustle. Breakfast is papaya and melon with basic Continental ham and cheese, but you can sometimes get eggs and even bacon. It has a very small pool, which can become sandy. Cheapest hotel for singles from £147 per week.

Hotel Sobrado

At the entrance to the town and just 400m from the beach. It is run by Armand, a Belgian who speaks some English. The hotel has prices similar to the Pontoon but is not as well managed or as clean. It was once an apartment block and is now delapidated. On the top floor it offers youth hostel style rooms with shared baths or showers, for divers or surfers looking for a cheap stay. The Continental breakfast buffet also offers omelettes. Evening meals are fresh tuna or beef cooked on a barbecue, in the open-air restaurant. It has a small pool, which can become sandy. Rooms from £140 per person.

G from Ireland liked it and so did D from Cheshire.

"The hotel was lovely, friendly and welcoming."
"Sobrado did 'everything it said on the tin' and it was easy to get on with a Francophile but, for whatever reason, the owner seems to be finding it heavy going."

Hotel Alice

French owned and run so it has nice croissants and coffee for breakfast on the roof terrace. It is a prety New Orleans style pink building in a main street. Rooms are rather small and can get hot at some times of year. Rooms are £156 per person all year around.

Hotel Santa Maria Beach

Just the other side of the Beach Front road towards the East of the town and the Aeroflot, the Santa Maria Beach is Cape Verdean owned but the owner is always present, Some rooms have a sea view and they are all clean and comfortable. It has a small breakfast bar area which serves a buffet and cold drinks.

The hotel does not honour advance bookings and cannot be trusted

C&C from Manchester have stayed in both hotels.

"There is not much between the Santa Maria Beach and the Les Alizes. The Les Alizes is more central but the Santa Maria Beach is more modern. We found it a bit more comfortable at the Santa Maria Beach, being able to sit out on the balcony, air conditioning etc.....If we were to pick between the two we would pick the Santa Maria Beach"
