Hotel Foya Branca, Sao Vicente

Beachfront, Sao Pedro, Sao Vicente

Flights via Sal cost around £200 return

The resort was originally a villa and apartment complex which was converted into an hotel, when the Belgian developer gave up trying to sell it. It is owned by Portuguese doctors investors who are trying to improve it and awaiting the day when the airport runway is extended. It lies almost at the end of the airport runway and has nice gardens with a large pool, surrounded by palms and fake turf.. It is built next to the long sandy beach at Sao Pedro, where the sea can be rough because it is on a very windy corner of the island. The wedge shape of the main hotel gives every room a balcony, looking out onto the sea.

The villas are large and well equipped with kitchens and can spacious as they were built for sale. It has three pools, tennis court, playground, two bars. Windsurfing, body-boarding and diving can be organised by Frederick , who will also arrange fishing for tuna with local boats from Sao Pedro village at the other end of the beach.

Riding and cycling on private tracks can also be organised. There is a regular free hotel bus goes into Mindelo, several times a day, which is where most of the action is. But the trip takes only 10 minutes.

K from London was very apprehensive but it all turned out well.

"Just a belated thank you to say thanks very much for organising the trip. It was fantastic - I loved Cape Verde and the trip was organised very well. I particularly loved the Foya Branca which I think is one of the best hotels I have stayed in. I am buying somewhere in Sao Vicente but may go back in November to look at Boa Vista and Maio. From what I have read I must be one of the only people who did not have trouble with TACV (although I had my mobile phone stolen from my suitcase on the way out but that was TAP I think.)"

D from Essex liked the hotel better than the island

"Was a bit worried on Sao Vicente to walk around as a few people warned us to be careful loved the hotel and beach at Sao Pedro though. We will be returning in a couple of years time to see how apartment coming along: bet everything will be so different then. Thanks again Claire"
A from Berkshire also liked it
"This is a seriously good hotel"

E from London liked it too.

"The Foya Branca is a very nice hotel. The restaurant was very nice indeed, although the service could be slow, depending on the time you ate. We did not find this a major problem, but some people became a bit irate, verging on rudeness. This was unfortunate as the staff were so pleasant and were trying their best. The only problem we had, was on arrival. The guy on reception would not give us a room. I had photocopied all correspondence and after over an hour of discussion, he finally gave us a room. He did apologise later and it did not spoil the trip. "

E from Scotland moved from the Porto Grande

"The hotel Porto Grande had poor rooms but the Foya Branca was very nice. "

I from Sweden liked the hotel

"The Foya Branca was exceptionally good. Very friendly and helpfull staff! By the way they were great fun on those rides to and from Mindelo, because you share the bus with them, which I think acctually is a great idea. The location is beautiful and even the layout of the hotel is very good. Rooms perfect, breakfast very good. I rented a bike once, which was very good quality. The restaurant is very good too. I think some of the guests, including me would have loved to sit outside for dinner, but I can understand, that this is a bit difficult to handle with the wind sometimes. The whole impression will suffer soon, I am afraid, because a new complex is growing in the neighborhood and it is getting a big construction site very fast. "
